Which got us thinking, what would a 1960s, French New Wave wedding look like? And how would these design ideas translate into a fabulous, dynamic invitation?
First, the dress. Look for something modern in the "mod" sense, short and above the knee with intricate design details, like lace or embroidery.

But what would a dress be without the proper shoes? We loved Madewell's Film Noir Pump in Garland Green, for a little pop of color. But if suede isn't your thing, these vintage-inspired Elopement Pumps from BHLDN brighten things up with little more of a romantic flair.
Your wedding bands should be simple and post-modern, if a wedding band can be irreverent! Check out the beautiful jewelry from Monciun, a boutique in Williamsburg. We especially loved the "Zigzag" Turquoise Ring.
Of course you'll need a dynamic setting, one in which new and old styles collide, and what could capture that tension more beautifully then the Tobacco Wharehouse in DUMBO, Brooklyn? Right underneath the Brooklyn Bridge, this space is both avant-garde and traditional.
As for flowers, who says a bride can't carry balloons, instead? It brings to life Albert Lamorisse's 1956 short film, "The Red Balloon."
And now, how do all of these gorgeous details translate into print?
This save-the-date, created by Lilly & Louise, uses a simple, clean, and bold look to convey a mid-century, modern yet avant-garde, look. |
This branding project by Marque Creative for the Nolita Hotel, is a stunning example of blending bold style and a cinemagraphic look. |
We hope these ideas stir your mischievous spirit of youthful nonchalance!
